What equipment do I need for a Hosted PBX ? |
 |
There a few different types of equipment which can work with a Hosted PBX solutions, as outlined below:
- By now everyone has either been in at least one office or seen on television one style of a modern SIP telephone. There are many different manufacturers and the prices range from less than $100 to more than $600, depending on features. Some of the more common manufacturers are Cisco, Polycom, Aastra, and GrandStream. We provide telephones to our customers either on a full-rental basis or a purchase with an advanced-replacement plan.
- And, you may have seen people using their portable computers to make telephone calls. This is accomplished by installing a small program called a "softphone", which has one purpose -- to present a familiar interface which looks like a telephone handset. While Skype is probably the best recognized name in the consumer marketplace, it cannot be used with SIP telephony providers. For the SIP world, the best known software is XLITE (from CounterPath), though other products will work.
- For customers who have a need to preserve their company PBX, a VOIP Gateway can be installed at the customer's premises. It will allow users to have many of the benefits of VOIP telephony but, since old desksets are being used, they cannot possibly provide all the features of a new SIP deskset.
